Tree Squirrels

Western Gray Squirrel in the Methow Valley
Western gray squirrels are the largest tree squirrel native to the west coast of the United States. In Washington these squirrels are found in three disconnected populations. The population in south central Washington is the largest, occurring in oak pine forests. The southern Puget Sound population is the most imperiled. From 2003-2005 I worked as a University of Washington graduate student studying the western gray squirrel in the Methow Valley.
